ForzaWM was out in full force at the Milton Keynes Webber u17 silver tournament on Saturday 24^th February. The day began with the boys singles where unfortunately ForzaWM players Charlie Wakefield and Toby Beckett met each other in the group stage. Toby played very well to win 1 out of his 3 games against a player much older and more experienced than him. Charlie Wakefield won all 3 matches in the group stage, 15-12, 15-10 against Luca Geary, 15-3, 15-7 against Callum Chapman, and against the much younger ForzaWM player Toby Beckett 15-4, 15-7.

Wakefield progressed to the knockout stage with a quarter final match up against the number 2 seed, Russell Yeng from Yorkshire. After a closely contested first set, Wakefield winning 15-11, he went on to take the second set 15-9 and move on to the semi finals where he met his doubles partner for the day, Danny Chen from Cheshire.

After a rough start, he brought the game back and it went to setting, each rally as close and tense as the previous and luckily, Charlie managed to scrape a win in the first set 17-15 after leaving a drive from Chen which fortunately went out by a margin less than an inch. The second set was just as close which he eventually won 15-12 to make the final after getting off to a much better start.

The final was against a friend and someone who he had played doubles with before, Alan Tu, from Essex. It was an intense match With Wakefield taking the first set 15-13, holding his nerve in a tight match point. In the second set, Charlie Wakefield had the chance to take it being 14-12 up however couldn’t hold on to take the match in 2, losing it 14-16 to take the match to 3. In the third set, Wakefield got off to the best possibly start, being 9-2 up with his opponent having exasperated all of his energy to take the second set. Wakefield eventually won 15-5, take the match 15-13, 14-16, 15-5.

The doubles was just as tight, Wakefield pairing up semi-finalist opponent Danny Chen and Beckett pairing up with Harry Jones. Charlie and Danny having never played with each other before, felt they worked really well as a pair and out of an extremely competitive group, won 2 and lost 2 winning against Alan Tu and George Railton and to Zak Malik and Kieran Cheng. In the two matches they lost the first of which was to the paring of John Lowe and Russell Yeng from Yorkshire, losing 12-15, and narrowly missing out on taking the match to 3, losing the second game 15-17. The other match was against Zak Bobrowski and Adam Hunt from Hertfordshire, at one all 16-14, 12-15, the end third was tight, with Charlie and Danny narrowly losing in the third set 17-19.
