Charlie Wakefield – Norfolk U18 Restricted 2018
Norfolk U18 Restricted 2018 – Charlie Wakefield
On Saturday the 3rd of November, I played the Norfolk U18 Restricted, where I defended the 3 titles I won last year in the same tournament.
I came out of my group fairly easily in single figures to progress to the semi where I played Aruneesh Lakshmanavelu, a friend and old rival. This was a tough match for me and the score-line of 21-10, 21-9 really did not reflect the intensity of the game. I then met my 13 year old younger brother Harry Wakefield in the final where there was a lot more at stake than just the tournament to say least. It was equally as intense as the semi with the added pressure of playing my little brother however I was able to use my size and speed advantages to win to 8 and 9 with some incredibly intense rallies and the whole hall focussed on our game.
I then paired up with my brother for the doubles where we came through our group fairly comfortably to play Charlie Butler and Rohan Damodhar. After a bit of an early scare, we won 21-16 to make the final against Aruneesh and Louis Davis. The final was tight with some very close rallies again however we managed to win it in two 15-7, 15-9.
Forza-West Midlands was very well represented at the competition with many players wearing their own forza shirts or the team shirts from ICT or the Shires finals.
Thanks once again to ForzaWM for continuing to sponsor me for the coming season and supporting me and Norfolk u18’s for the 2018-19 season.
