I have been in Madrid (Iberdrola) for the past few days (June 14-17) competing in the Spanish International 2018. I was in the qualifications for singles. I had a bye in the first round & so was straight into the second round, where I faced Laura Muir from Scotland. I won this match 21-11, 21-15. Due to a withdrawal, I had a walkover in the last round of the qualifications, which meant I won my qualification and earnt a place in the main draw.
My first round match in the maindraw was against the number 7 seed, Mugdha Agrey from India. She is currently ranked 86th in the world so I knew it would be a hard challenge. In the first set I was struggling with the speed of the shuttles due to the hot conditions which put me 11-3 down at the halfway point. After some change of tactics, I managed to get back into the match, but was too far behind at that point & lost the first set 21-15. I then went on to lose the next set 21-13.
I was pleased to have made it through qualifications into the maindraw & to have put up a respectable performance against a much more experienced player.
