Liverpool U15 Silver – Jasmine Owen
Jasmine Owen – Liverpool U15 Silver – 14.10.2017
Jasmine arrived at Liverpool in good spirits hoping to carry on from the previous week in good form.
First up was the singles. Jasmine started very well beating Aarthy Aravind 15-5, 15-8 and Asmi Shembekar 15-6, 15-6. The final group game was a different proposition. Jasmine was up against the No. 1 seed Aditi Bhat. Jasmine started well before Aditi upped the pressure to win in three sets 15-11, 9-15, 15-10. Aditi went on to win the tournament without dropping another set.
Jasmine teamed up for the first time with Grace Sherwin for the doubles. This competition had 4 entries in a round robin format. They played the No. 1 seeds first up, playing reasonably well in defeat 11-15, 15-10, 12-15. The No. 2 seeds were next in another 3 set match, this time winning 13-15, 17-15, 15-12. Unfortunately, when playing the final rally of the match Jasmine collapsed in agony with a torn hamstring. After long deliberation Jasmine decided to play the final match. With Jasmine playing on one leg, barely able to move Grace had to push hard. Somehow, they managed to win the first set before Aarthy Aravind & Stephanie Rowarth took advantage to win 16-14, 6-15, 8-15. Due to countback Jasmine & Grace took the silver medal in their first outing together.
Unfortunately, that was the end of Jasmines tournament due to her injury (it was probably not the best idea to have carried on). This meant that Jasmine and Arnav Patil were unable to play in the mixed doubles.
Jasmine also pulled out of the 3 events scheduled in the U17 silver at the same venue the next day.
Over the next week Jasmine required plenty of rest and rehabilitation under the physio.
The physio gave Jasmine the green light to play in the U15 Gold at Bath on 28th October.
